GEEZ!!! I thought I still needed to start a blog about this! I forgot! (But, hey, I did start it ...!) Many apologies for not keeping it up! I wanted to update my bird blog tonight and found this! Oh well, I am an "old fart" and that is what happens sometimes ...
OK! I really DO have an e-place to share my thoughts about all the wonderful things we take for granted in our lives! I forgot I started it! I have SO many notes on 3x5 cards of what I would like to share!!!
I note and reflect on these thankful for granted things daily, but obviously have not published!
Yes, we all have many things for which to be thankful! Most of the things for which we give thanks are fairly obvious. Parents, kids, life itself, friends!!! Everyone does this "thanks stuff" at every holiday. But I started this to talk about the things we take for granted that we really never think about.
I really was thinking about all the amazing things in our lives like electricity, fresh water, food, shelter, the environment and so on ... What happens if we do not have them! We take them for granted, but what if we lived in a world where they were unavailable or limited? It might not be too much of a stretch to imagine yourself in some part of the world where the "basics" were not available. Think about it! For starters, you would not even reading this now!!! Forget the "basics" - think about your "e-stuff"!!! (... and I am not just talking foreign countries here, but also in parts of the USA!)
And what would have your life have been in your ancestor's days without - for example - plumbing and lights? And, indeed, for many of us it does not take too many generations to find that situation!
And then I extrapolate back to the huge contributions made by our scientists and engineers and so many others who made the advances we enjoy today! And I have a great many note cards of my thoughts to post here!!! It is our past that gives us the sometimes relative comfort to even think about being thankful for those around us!
But even with all the volume of ideas and categories I have to post and refine sometime, I just got a new one tonight! It happened as I enjoyed time with myself playing with a "now-for-granted" cell phone in my doc's office today.
Humor!
Indeed we take humor for granted!!! I do not know to where to attribute the origin of humor at present, but indeed it is a worthwhile search! I suspect it might be more ancient than any records allow Yet, indeed, we need to give thanks for our ability to find humor in any situation! Humor not only allows us to understand ourselves and others, but also to physically express it in our guts. Humor makes us laugh! It pushes air in and out of our lungs. It is physical! It is prolonging our lives! It is just Fun!!! Humor is the exercise that keeps us living!
Oh, I could go on ... but tonight I just wanted to update my bird blog and found out I had already set up my thankful-for-granted blog!
OMG! Now I have another blog for which to fall behind. BUT, in my regained knowledge of its existance, I offer I shall try to work on this as well!
Again, stay tuned ...
(I might not work on my bird blog tonight ... I tend to "ramble" in a frenzy and, not being a typist, watching my fingers on the keyboard becomes laborious ...)
Well, anyway, I know most of you give thanks for significant aspects of your life now, and I hope this blog - when developed - will expand your thankfulness to recognize the basics and origins of what we enjoy and take for granted!
Thankful for Granted

This blog will recognize and emphasize all the things we take for granted in our lives for which we should be truly thankful! The idea for this site started in a Michigan winter when the electricity went out. OK - I have candles and flashlights, but they do not warm the house very much when the electrical motor on the furnace does not allow the furnace to work and provide the heat we need to survive comfortably.
Extensions of my for-granted thankfulness message abound.
Our family is number one! We tend to assume they will always be here!
So many more will be placed on this blog, and input will be solicited from you to hear your own stories about the parts of your life you take for granted that you should really gives many thanks for.
After I registered this site with a "dot com" domain, the Haiti earthquake happened! If you think being without something as simple as electrical power is a hardship, just imagine life as it was in Haiti then. I doubt that many in Haiti took much for granted anyway, but just imagine a world without not only power, but without food, water, medical supplies, sanitation, etc. - and even the basic security of family members and literally an unshakable foundation!
Be thankful for the many things you take for granted!!!
Stay tuned as I build this blog!
